Manchester is located in the northwest of great britain was made a city in 1853. A big city, it boasts a population of over 450,000, which makes it the fourteenth most populated city in Europe.
The city boasts 2 major railway station, manchester piccadilly and manchester victoria. it is also served by national & local coach and bus services, many of these services leave from the city’s chorlton street coach station.
Manchester initially came to prominence during the Industrial Revolution, which is when the city became the world leader in textile manufacture and production. the city is really proud of its industrial history & a number of the cotton mills that were used during this time have been converted into flats and offices.
The city is also renowned for its commerce, science and technology. It boasts three universities & is well known as the birthplace of the Baby computer, which revolutionised modern computing.
Although the city still has many sensational Victorian buildings including the town hall & Central Library, it also has many complicated buildings. a number of these architecture were constructed after the city was bombed by terrorists in1996.
There’s loads of things to do in Manchester, including plenty of museums and art galleries. occasionally of the finest are URBIS, the police museum and the Whitworth Art Gallery.
The Whitworth art gallery boasts a friendly permanent collection of artwork, containing art by artists including Picasso, Paul Klee and David Hockney. as well as this, the gallery also boasts various touring exhibitions.
Manchester is a fantastic place for shopping lovers with a wide range of outlets that suit every taste. you will find designer stores like agent provocateur & armani on the city’s elite King Street, in addition to larger department stores including harvey nicks.
Budget shoppers will be happy to know that there’s plenty of high-street outlets on Market street. some of the most popular outlets are new look, hmv & Game.
